The time of the ARTS project has come to an end. The last papers are written, the last public sessions have been concluded and the last articles are being typed. Where will all the people involved in the project disperse to? Which seed planted during these three years will grow? And where?
The 5th Informed Cities Forum came to me like a thunderstorm: Coming for a long time, being here briefly and impressively and leaving me behind refreshed and contemplating on what had just happened.
When I close my eyes and think back to these intense one and a half days in Dresden about two weeks ago, this comes up: I remember a group of very mixed and all in their own way very inspiring and cordial people sitting together in a former church turned ruin turned theater turned conference venue under a glass roof that kept us connected to the burning sun, moving clouds and torrential rains outside. Everything changes… constantly. I remember international citizens in very different positions in society and representing manifold interest groups sharing their views and observations, their angle towards sustainability and their quarrels within, without, against or in favor of this basically hard to grasp thing, ”the system”. I remember questioning ourselves basically, if there is hope for the future of humankind on this planet. And if yes, how can we share this hope?
Below you will find 10 songs that make my transition playlist. It’s about the music, the lyrics, the memories they bring, the different voices and stories. There were so many others that kept coming to mind but well, sometimes you just need to make a choice (and also some would be way too embarrassing to share publicly). It’s very personal at times and of course forever in progress, hope you will enjoy it and please keep those lists coming!
Well… when I read – and heard – the article of Sören, where he posted his current Transition Radio playlist, my head started spinning. I spent the rest of the day rummaging through the melodies and lyrics in my head. I found songs that got me started years ago, songs that pull me down, others that bring me back on track and make me sanguine again on these winding waves of change. To add some more songs to the playlist for these turbulent summer days I’ll throw in my current nine favourite songs of change.
Which way to the future? This was the question asked by the 4th Informed Cities Forum that was held in Rotterdam from 26th-27th of March. Over 150 participants from 22 European countries were exploring new ways of bridging the gaps between civil servants, scientists and citizens.
Although this event is a long while ago, the aim of bringing together unlike people and trying to make them understand each other is a reoccuring topic of my year it seems. My observations from March still resonate in me when I visit current events. So I decided to post this one despite the delay.
